Local Company to Forego Large Holiday Party in Order to Donate More to Charity

Wallingford, CT: January 7, 2009—When it came time to planning this year’s Holiday Party, UNAPEN Inc.—a Wallingford-based software developer and technology provider for investment advisers—looked around at the declining economy and their financial services clients who are going through extremely tough times with the stock market, and decided to downsize the party.

MaryAnne Rode, the Human Resources Director at UNAPEN, said, “UNAPEN has made a conscious decision to scale back on our holiday party to allow us to increase our charitable giving, particularly with respect to local organizations. Given the difficult economic circumstances that many who are less fortunate than us find themselves in during this holiday season, we thought this might be a more appropriate celebration of our good fortune.

UNAPEN donated the money it would have used on a bigger party to several charities in and around Connecticut and is holding a small gathering for its employees and their families at the Madison Surf Club on January 24th at 6pm.

The Charities receiving donations were CT Food Bank, Stand Up to Cancer, Family Support Services, Visiting Nurses Association Care Network, Shoreline Community Women to provide postage for holiday boxes to US Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, LULAC Head Start Program, and Ceres Scholarships.
